There were so many great games that came out this year and while I played a lot, I know I have missed so many. My 2017 has been full of new and old games and the start of a blog where I get to ramble about something to people that liked to be rambled to.
This year has proven to be a lot busier near the end than at the beginning so I have been pretty restricted on the time I could spend on console and pc gaming. A lot more time was put into mobile gaming this year because it's easy to play on the subway when I am getting somewhere. Unfortunately, there really hasn't been any real good break away mobile games this year besides Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp that has taken away from Clash Royale and Pokemon Go. The two latter apps still take a bulk of my mobile gaming.
Older games on mobile that proved to be fun this year was Lara Croft: Go and SkullGirls. Both of these came out in previous years but they were still some of my favorites and SkullGirls has stayed on my phone.
As far as PC gaming goes I have been pretty locked down by starting too many games and not finishing. For those that I have finished nothing from this year has really stood out. A game with no ending, Battlerite, really took over for my arena fix. I still am playing that game and I love how I can just stick in a short round and be on with my day.
The Switch, on the other hand, has been hitting it out of the ballpark. While it started out as a glorified Breath of the Wild machine, Mario + Rabbids, and Mario Odyssey were two amazing titles that I binged all the way through. On top of these three must play titles Xenoblade Chronicles has me more than intrigued.
One series I finished this year that was amazing was The Witcher. The Witcher 3 and the expansions were amazing. I also finally finished Dark Souls and started up Dark Souls 2, which has been a time vampire as well. There was a small stint of FFXIV where I played through the expansion. The story was awesome I just think I am over the endless grind of an MMO. For the casual side, Stardew Valley on the Switch has been a staple since its release.
If I had to pick one game of the year it would have to be Mario Odyssey. No other game has hit all the chords like it did and accomplished it as a 3-D open world platformer in 2017. The music, the story, and the worlds all came together in an experience that rings far more vivid than any other game this year.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who has been reading and keeping up with my blog. I am working on my writing through it and I hope to keep improving my style to keep it worth reading. I am humbled by the number of you who follow along. I assumed when I started this I'd be talking into the emptiness of the internet but found a surprising number of interested people. Thank you and have a happy new year!
