I feel like there is just not enough time in the world for me to play everything I want to play. Life just gets in the way. E3 was enjoyable but looking at the upcoming games worth playing is almost daunting. While I have read some criticism that there is "nothing coming out", I will respectfully disagree. In this post I am going to some up the last bits of stuff I found interesting, which come from the PC and, my favorite, Nintendo showcase. I am leaving out Animal Crossing because I am tired of talking about it.
PC
Chivalry 2
Unfortunately, I have only played its predecessor briefly but what I saw from this game has compelled me to take a deeper look. The fact that they have recreated famous battles from movies is something that has me the most interested. Not only a cool take on the FPS genre but a promise to let you recreate epic experiences sounds like something I want to do. It is going to stay on my radar and hopefully something I have time to delve into.
Remnant: From the Ashes
This is my first introduction to Remnant: From the Ashes and it left an impression on me. This looks like an over the should fused with monster hunter. From what they showcased it will be a battle with friends against several unique and formidable monsters bosses. While there seems to be a little adventuring against minions the game is centered around the greater fights. A modern spin on the monster hunter genre is welcomed and I am ready to jump in.Songs of Conquest
If there is one older series I miss its Heroes of Might and Magic. While this is not a visually upgraded game that I still want, a refreshing take on the gameplay is more than welcome. Even though it's in 16-bit art, it looks good, and could definitely something I would like to try out.Baulders Gate 3
The best iteration of DnD to PC came long ago in the form of Baldur's Gate. This game gained notoriety in a time when the PC market was a pale dot of what it is today. The story successfully continued on in the sequel and now we will have a 3rd to take us deeper into a rich world that managed to bring small highly pixelated characters to life. I could rant further but I see myself doing so in the future.Nintendo
Panzer Dragoon
Another classic game is getting a remake. This game was an enjoyable shooter on rails. I am interested to see how well this will translate to the modern gaming world. While being on rails used to be an adaptation to the graphics limitations of the time it's not so much of an issue now. My hope is that we will get a demo before the actual game to get a feel for what this remake has in store.
Pokemon Sword and Sheild
This is another game I have talked about ad-nausium but it looks good. Its the first iteration of core pokemon game coming to console. It also has a new battle mechanic that looks solid. Not to mention co-op. That is awesome on its own. I am not really turned off by the fact that not every pokemon will be in there. There are almost one thousand. I don't have that kind of time and neither does a programmer.
Breath of the Wild Sequal
Dragon Quest Builder 2
This game is coming out soon and I am pretty excited about it. Think mind craft with a purpose. The first game looked interesting enough so I took a gamble and I am glad I did. It was a lot of fun and to be able to play it with friends is even more exciting. Just got to get me a couple.
While many have commented that E3 was a little lackluster this year, I found myself satisfied. Granted there weren't many massive announcements but there were plenty of updates on games that were in the pipeline and we now have several release dates for titles that we have been waiting a long time for. One thing is for sure. Next year is going to have some killer games.
