One of the conventions that had been a larger show and usually on my radar is Blizzcon. This year it was not at all and I think it has a lot to do with the lack of things to be excited for. For the sake of keeping to my 3-a-week post, I'll touch on a few things they talked about but, I am going to be honest, there is not much there.
World of Warcraft vanilla is coming out this summer and I am sure it will be a trip down nostalgia lane. My questions are, are we talking launch vanilla or when they finally put a flight path in the middle of The Barrons so we didn't have to spend an hour getting to the next quest? Zeplin bug included? Can we kite dragons again? Either way, I played the crap out of that game and destroyed relationships with it. I think it will be great for some hardcore fans but I am just not interested in stepping back in after all these years.
I can't imagine the emotional rollercoaster of being there live at the announcement of the new Diablo game only to find out it is going to be a mobile. Anyone who knows anything about mobile knows Diablo-style isometric games are one of the most popular games on mobile and it has been done and redone. If they cram this game with microtransactions, which is almost a certainty, it's going to be just like every mobile game on the market. I am still going to download and play it though.
There was some news about a new deck in Hearthstone and a new character in Overwatch. Both games I am long past playing. I am curious as to what Warcraft 3 is going to be like but that seems like a remaster. Once again there wasn't anything in there to get me really excited. Right now the biggest thing on Battle Net is Call of Duty. I did download destiny because it was free but I have yet to even play it. Even still there was nothing at Blizzcon to compel me to be excited or move back to any of their now aging games.
