When the Switch came out it was a little light on first party titles. It also kept indie titles down to a small number creating the perfect storm for the smaller developers. It seemed like the new promise land for theses indies but a recent thread on Reddit brought up the possibility that the land might not be as fruitful as it seems.
The post talks about yet another thread on resetara.com where the creator of Cosmic Star Heroin was disappointed with the sells they received on the console. The expectation they had of sells were less then they had anticipated and felt they weren't getting the support from Nintendo needed to boost their exposure. This got me wondering whether or not the Switch was as great for indie games as the hype suggests and come to find out there was a quick answer from Austin Woods of PCGamer.
What many have to realize is even with some of the greater titles like Darkest Dungeon and Super Meat Boy is that success on the Switch was nice but it wasn't the bulk of their sales.(pcgamer.com) While the sales were good and surprising for some they were still only a fraction of their overall sales. This has a lot to do with the ownership numbers as compared to the other consoles but still showed that devs need to temper their expectations.
The Nintendo Switch is no doubt an incredible console for indie games. It's a portable console that will allow you to take these games that tend to have less demanding graphics on the go. In my own experience, it has been great for this, especially with one of my favorites, Star Dew Valley. While these games fit well and feel good, it doesn't necessarily mean it the devs will see their largest income.
