The State of the Switch

I am going to take another day off from reviewing shitty mobile games and free to play cards to talk about something a bit more interesting.  To fans on this side of the console (the owner's side), Nintendo has been killing the games one after another.  Save for Mario Tennis, they have released several good first party titles over the last year and set a strong precedence for the upcoming year.  On top of that the new and re-release of indie games has created a handheld that acts as a Steam library on the go.  Not to mention the implementation of Fortnite and the upcoming Warframe.  Still, this apparently has not put investors minds at ease.

Thanks to Youtube's weird ass algorithm, where I don't get notifications of my favorite YouTubers but some randos, I was introduced to the reality that Nintendo's stock is not doing so hot.  "The Know", a channel I had never heard of before but about a million people have, gave a 12-minute explanation on why investors are seeing tepid times for Nintendo.  It basically comes down to people not believing they will hit their mark of 20 million consoles in this fiscal year.  This has driven the stock price down to a little less than that of last year.  With this in mind, unless you trade stocks, it's probably not that important.

The Switch has already outsold the Wii U in its first year and outpaced sales of consoles sold in America. (washingtonpost.com)  A little slow down might hurt stock prices but as we have seen it hasn't slowed down the amount of first and third party games. One interesting thing coming out of this is that we haven't even received the full list of games launching this year according to the outgoing president. (nintendolife.com)  I hope this means animal crossing...

While the stock prices aren't doing great, on my fanboy side of the equation things seem to be just fine.  We have Smash Brothers, Pokemon Lets Go, and Mario Party to look forward to.  This is not even counting the DLC for the games already out and indie titles to come with Devolver Digital saying they have 12 games lined up for the Switch. (nintendolife.com)  Stocks might be hurting but those of us who own the console sure won't be this year.
