Star Trek Timelines Review

With the mobile market as flooded as it is, picking up a well-known franchise seems to be the way to eek out some visibility in order to get people to play your game.  Seeing a Star Trek game I though two things.  First "oh neat Star Treck" and then "I bet this going to be terrible."  Let's talk about Star Trek Timelines by Disruptor Beam.

Spoiler: I Was Right

For those of you familiar with Star Trek you will remember the obnoxious omnipresent omnipotent character Q.  Well, the galactic asshat has done it again and fucked with some timelines so now all of the Star Trek things are basically happening at once is what I gathered.  The text-driven game is a little dry in the writing so I might have missed some of the finer points but that is about the sum of whats going on.

To get through these scenarios you will take your heroes from the show, yes there is hero collecting, and send them on an adventure.  This is where there is actually some uniqueness to the game.  To get through the scenario you will be using a skill from your characters to choose from different paths.  There are also moments where you will talk to people and your response will benefit one faction over the other.  For example, there are scenarios between making the Klingons happy vs the Federation.  From what I gathered it changes stuff you can buy, or afk missions you can send your team on. It was unique but it didn't pull me that deep into the game.

It's Still A Mobile Game

It could be just the pure amount of mobile games I have played but I just couldn't find anything in here to stick me to the game.  The fighting of different classic ships with different captains didn't do it for me, the different costumes didn't do it for me, the combining of different Star Trek teams didn't do it for.  This is because a lot of this is locked behind time gating and expensive currency purchases.  None of it felt worth it or felt unique.  If you have played one mobile hero collecter you have played them all.  Maybe had I jumped on early I would have been a bigger fan but I didn't and I am not.

The idea is cool but it just didn't do it for me.  Loot boxes aside, this genre is so hashed out I am surprised these games are still being pumped out even.  Its age of two years does not excuse it from lacking content in fact at this point it should have pinpointed down good content. It didn't and this game is just like the rest with a Star Trek face.  I was right, this game isn't good.

TL;DR:

While not being the worst in the genre Star Trek Timelines is not great.  It barely taps the nostalgia vein and its just so full of cell phone game its easily forgettable. Fuck loot boxes.  Available on Android and IOS.
