My Thoughts On Nintendo's E3 Direct (2018)

Right now I am on an airplane headed back home but while at the airport and while loading the plane I was able to watch the Nintendo E3 direct.  Just a note of caution out of all of the presentations I will be least unbiased with this one as I am a full on Nintendo fanboy.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I enjoyed Xenoblade's experience for the most part but near the end found myself frustrated with the pacing and some of the fights.  I remember just wanting to get it over with.  There has been some time in between that and there was enough of the game that makes me want to play again.  It wasn’t a bad game so the DLC is a maybe.

Pokemon Lets Go

I already pre-ordered Eevee as I still play Pokemon Go often.  The challenge I set up a month ago to get to 40 might have fallen by the wayside as a random girlfriend encounter took up a lot my free time to play.  No matter, I am back out on the streets standing awkwardly at intersections and public locations slam dancing the screen on my phone and a Switch game to go along with it sounds like fun.

Super Mario Party

This is the classic party game for Nintendo.  If I find people to play this with I will get it but they are never that much fun alone.

Fire Emblem

I am a long-time fan of the series.  If all you have played is the mobile version, know you only have a taste of what this game can offer.  Fire Emblem has been a consistent and good tactics RPG.  I have lost track of the story long ago but there is one…although I never found that to be the strong point.  The strong point is with the troops and the paper scissor rock dynamic that makes each map a challenging puzzle.  I am sure with this title they will stick to the formula and we will have a good game at the very least.

Fortnite

I like it but I don’t want to play against PC on a Switch.  Then again free is my favorite price point. I might just play it to see how it is.

Nindies

Hallowknight was the only I cared about.  Still haven’t played it but I want to.  Having it portable is the selling point.

Octopath Traveler

Gave my thoughts with the SE conference yesterday.  I am getting it, I enjoyed the first Demo, and I am excited to see what they have improved with the second.

Super Smash Bros

I love fighting games.  I like Smash Bros.  I am excited.  The line up this time around is huge as they are including all previous characters to select from plus their new ones.  On top of that, there are skins for each character.  It looked like there were 60+ base characters and you will be starting out with about a dozen, so the challenges that make this game fun are coming back. Let me be objective for a second, I am sure it will only be just as great as the previous titles.

Nintendo's E3 was pretty tame all things considered and I am a little sad that we are once again not seeing any new IPs.  It feels like, besides Sony, most publishers are sticking to their well-known money making guns and letting indie studios test the water.  Nintendo is by no means in parrel or in need of one but I would think now would be a perfect time to experiment.  Until then we will have to just enjoy the regular old fun games they produce.
