I was out in nature with my family last night without a good connection so I missed this one. With the time I have before the Bethesda presentation I decided to give EA a look over for their year to come. Good lord it felt awkward but here are some thoughts on the games.
Battlefield V
The game looks pretty good. The series seems to be moving forward with what new mechanics exists in video games. Destructive environments and more defense weapons you can move is what lets this game stands out from the BFs that I have played in the past. Of course, they have added a battle royale because how couldn't they. It hasn't earned a pre-order from me because of how EA has been lately but I am interested.
FIFA 2019
Looks like FIFA and I was so close to buying last year but it was going to be on the Switch, which was missing some big parts of the game. If they add these on for Switch, then I'll get it but this game needs to be mobile.
Jedi: Fallen Order
A single player game? I mean, that's exciting but we couldn't get at least a screenshot.
Battlefront 2
Poor Dennis. Poor, poor, poor Dennis. I accept your apology but are enough people still playing? This game is something I wanted, was disappointed by, and would like to fall in love with. I am not sure if Clone Wars is enough to bring me back but it sure is a start.
Unravel 2
Oh yeah, I was going to play Unravel... should do that.
Sea of Solitude
I was about to shit all over this title and then really ended up liking where the presenter with it. The game footage did even more for me and this title is officially on my radar. It will be interesting where this goes in 6 months.
Command and Conquer: Rivals
If you follow this blog at all you know I have registered for Alpha. If I can play it I'll review it later. It looked a little slow on stage but as long as it fits in a bathroom break it could be an okay game.
Anthem
I am still not sure about it because of Bioware's recent track record mixed with what EA has been up to. It's really hard to get excited about anything they make. One thing for sure is this game looks pretty and I am really looking forward to some comprehensive gameplay footage; what we saw was too clipped and doesn't give a real sense of pacing. It does look pretty but it also reminds me a lot of Destiny.
Their Other Stuff
Their cloud platform reminds me a lot of what Valve was trying to do. How well this going to work is going to be interesting because while the internet is getting faster, wi-fi can still be hit or miss.
The sub-model still doesn't strike me as a need to have mostly because I need a price. If the price is right and it means I can just grab one of their games whenever I want, this could be interesting. The price has to be right.
So...
This presentation felt like EA is still on an apology tour and they should be. They had a shit year last year and it's all on them. I never want a company to fail and would love to see a redemption year especially with the titles and the amount of money these guys have. There is very little reason to trust anything they say right now but it would be nice if they could follow through. I am just not seeing too much to follow through on right now.
Side note: Don't put your damn hands in your pocket when you are making a presentation on the stage, especially if you are talking.
