Triple Agent Review

It has always been my hope that people start bringing more multiplayer mobile games to the market.  Usually what you get are games that have a sudo multiplayer or just a Scrabble knockoff.  I never expect to find much and was even more surprised when I came across not only a multi-player game but a party game that was worth trying. Triple Agent by Tasty Rook made a party game for 5 to 9 players and it works.

The Game:

If you have ever played games like The Resistance and Secret Hitler then you should have a pretty good idea how this game is played.  In Triple Agent, you only need one phone where everyone will enter their names.  You will then pass around the phone and people will hold down on the finger mark and be told whether they are The Service or a part of V.I.R.U.S. who are double agents.

The object of the game is simple.  At the end of the game, everyone will secretly vote to send someone to jail.  The Service wants to send V.I.R.U.S. to jail and visa versa.  During the game, the phone will be passed around to each person.  They will have to read out loud the mission type they received and then go to the next screen where they will be given secret information they can share or keep secret.  They can also lie too.

There is a free mode you can play but more missions are available for purchase.  There is also some variation of the games you can choose from as well as being able to take out certain types of missions that you don't like.

My Thoughts:

I found myself at a party where we debating on a game to play.  There were seven of us at the time and we didn't have too many for that number.  I remembered hearing about Triple Agent and convinced everyone to give it a shot.  It took one second to look it up, a few seconds to download, and a minute or two to pass around the phone so everyone could enter their name.  No experience was required.

The game was an instant classic.  It is what you expect from a party deception game with great little-hidden gems sprinkled in. For example, there are times where a person will get a secret mission where they are they can be the sole winners of a game.  The rest of the time everyone is looking around the room suspiciously trying to find out who to trust and who not to trust.  The games move on to the next and it is hard to forget the people who have betrayed you before.  When the alcohol kicks in, all bets are off.  The best part was everyone was enjoying it and the only reason we stopped is we had previous plans.

The game was easy to use and passing the quick access to rules makes it easy for everyone to learn an understand what is going on.  The UI is simple and effective.  The game has great replayability.

Triple Agent is close to games I have played before but the dynamic of the passing around the phone and the variation in missions makes the game unique in its own right.  It's awesome to have a go-to game that is just sitting in my pocket whenever I need it.  It did put a slight drain on my battery since my display was always on but it was well worth it.  I highly recommend trying this game out.

TL;DR:

If you are in a party of 5 to 9 people and you are looking for a game, you have found it.  This is one of those things you should keep on your phone just in case.
