Another day and another Nintendo Direct. Right before the Nintendo Switch subreddit lost its mind, a "Mini" Nintendo Direct was released this morning. I really wanted to talk about it, nobody I work with did, so I am going to make an extra post this week. This time instead of going over everything I am just going to keep it to some of my favorite highlights.
The first thing I learned is that this is going to be an expensive first half of the year. Even in a mini, they dropped a bunch of titles on us.
The opening title and one I definitely found interesting was The World Ends With You. I had heard the name of the game from long ago and the fact that its a rhythm game tells me this title is for me. Its animation looks like it won't look too dated on the Switch.
Y's VIII also looked good as another JRPG I can get into once I finish Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which I suspect will be sometime in 2025. I am not sure exactly what this game is all about but its trailer has me interested. Floating numbers after hitting an enemy are always fun.
One title that got me excited was Mario Tennis Aces because it's Mario Tennis. A single player mission mode is always something that can get me intrigued and Mario Tennis has traditionally been great. I am hoping to finally use the motion sensor on the Switch controller as well. Yeah, I forgot it had it too, and remember the screen is a touchscreen.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Kirby Star Allies both looked alright but I am not sure they were particularly exciting. I am might be grabbing both titles, it's just hard to follow the hype of last year. That and I don't have the 2-4 friends for co-op.
One thing I wasn't super excited for was the remaster of Dark Souls. Mostly because I have beat it already. If you haven't played it yet, this might be the way to get into. I recommend only playing on the docked mode just in case you feel like spiking the console after some bullshit mob kills you on your way to your 18th try at a boss.
Overall this year is starting out pretty solid. There is already so much to play with the mix of old titles, indie titles, and new releases. I mean I still have 500 moons to go and I am only on year 2 in Stardew Valley. I haven't even started Golf Story. Luckily with all the travesties in the world, there is no shortage of places looking for plasma. A few cookies and some Gatorade and you are ready to go.
