Empire Four Kingdoms: Fight Kings & Battle Enemies Review

I am not sure how this son of a bitch landed on my phone.  It must have had a great trailer or promise of something new because after about an hour of playing it I was pretty sure that this had to be an accident.  Since I spent the time trying to find the good in this game Empire: Four Kingdoms by Goodgame Studio is getting a review.

The Game:

Empire is a city builder game.  You will start with a basic castle and you will need to build several buildings using the resources you have to continue to expand your city.   You need to farm wood, stone, and gold to expand and upgrade your city.

You will be able to build an army and use them to defend or attack an enemy city.  The world map is a grid filled with other players and NPCs you can attack.  By attacking them you will able to gain their resources and when you are high enough, take over there castles.

There are a premium currency and buffs you can buy with real money.  These buffs will help you increase the number of resources you get and you can buy more resources with the premium currency.

You can join an alliance of other players that will help you grow your empire and protect you from other alliances.

My Thoughts:

I am not sure why the studio would call themselves Goodgame studio and make this game.  Unless they were like, "ah man we played you guys so hard, GG!"  If you have played any city builder from Evony, Clash of Clans, Game of War, etc.  you have played this game already. Maybe with different skins, different units, and different art but there is absolutely nothing unique or redeeming about this title.

Then again maybe there is.  Maybe I just quit too soon and there is a magical wonderland of awesome gameplay and fun ahead.  Maybe I am a millionaire.  Maybe I make every shot from the 3-point line.  Maybe I have a dragon.  Maybe I have a girlfriend.  The world is a mystery.

One thing that is not a mystery is how long and rehashed this game is.  Attacking a castle from 3 angles hardly makes the game unique and if anything just adds to the amount of time that you have to spend to hit a castle.  Something the game does a terrible job of compelling you to do.

These games are all about "pay to win" and this game isn't any different.  Immediately they are trying to push you to buy packages with resources and strong units.  This is so you can spend money, dominate players that don't somehow feel fulfilled, then spend more money.  Until you run into people that spend more than you.

Empire is just a rehash of the same system done over and over again.  It is hardly unique or worth spending time on.

TL;DR:

Empire: Four Kingdoms is a generic mobile city builder.  It doesn't do anything to distinguish itself.  There are far better version out there if you want a "pay to win" game.
