Blustone Review

In the world of mobile games, there is never a lack of anime illustrated collections games.  If you close your eyes in the Googles app store and just click wildly your phone will fill with them. Blustone by VisualShower Corp. could very well be one of the ones you hit.  Once you open it you will find you got basically what you expected with some variation.

The Game:

Blustone is a hero collection game where you will have a hero called a hunter that is moving from left to right on your screen auto attacking enemies as they approach you.  Tapping on the screen will allow the hero to attack faster until you hit what is called a furry.  In a furry you will auto attack at a faster speed.  After so many attacks you will build up an ultimate power, which you can then tap to unleash some flashy animation and do a lot more damage.

Your hero is supported by your team who are also hunters flying in a plane above, even though they are actually displayed below where your hero fights.  If your hunter runs low on health you can tap and slide one of them to the exit door of the plane to substitute in.  You can also use one of their abilities once you have charged up and they will execute their ultimate.

Each hunter is found through collecting traces of them.  You can get traces from buying them in the store, sending the Lottery Mouse out with special scrolls, or finding them in levels that you have completed.  Once you max out a hunter's level you can train them to improve their ranking.  This increases their star rating.

There is the in game currency of gold and a premium currency you can buy with real money.  The price in this game is a bit high but not the worst I have seen. The game caps the amount of adventuring you can do as well with the energy in it being fuel for your airplane.  You will have to use fuels to fight a level.  It also has the usual daily login reward and achievements that give you in game items.

My Thoughts:

For what Blustone is, it's not terrible.  The combat system is a bit different then most of these games that are out there but I would say it fails to distinguishes itself in a significant way.  It's just a little different really.

The combat system is kept simple, which makes for a friendly mobile experience.  You don't have to be too actively engaged in the game.  At the same time it's not altogether engaging.  You are really just tapping your screen as quickly as possible until you beat the level.  Every once in awhile you can hit an ultimate but unless your are doing one of the more challenging level you don't need to.

The one thing I think this game has going for it is the animated cut scenes they have sprinkled throughout.  While short they are pretty well animated and make the game feel like some actual effort was put into it. The story didn't really grab me though.  It might get more engaging later but upfront all you are doing is hunting for some artifacts.  The dialogue isn't altogether intriguing either.

There really isn't much more to say about the game. Its not bad but it's kind of unremarkable as well.  It's another name in the hero collection genre.

TL;DR:

Blustone is not good nor bad but just another familiar game in a saturated genre.  The animation through the game is what sets it apart.  It's your basic collect a hero then fight enemies to possibly collection more heroes.
