Lost Lands: Dark Overlord Review

In my search for a decent hidden object game, yes people search for these, Lost Lands was one of the highest rated so I decided to take a look.  Lost Lands: Dark Overlord opened the door to my love hate relationship with  FIVE-BN GAMES.  I'll have to explain the FIVE-BN thing later but right now let's talk about one of their gems.  This game is available on Steam but I played it on Android so this is where my review is going to focus.

The Game:

Lost Lands: Dark Overlord is a hidden object game set in a fantasy land that was not given a name or I missed it.  Our hero's child is pulled through a portal and instead of running for fear and screaming for help, a rational move, she straps her belt around her steel ovaries and steps in after her little one.

You will navigate through the world by solving puzzles, many which have to do with finding objects through out the land and returning them to their proper place.  These puzzles are not constrained to an area and you will find yourself finding pieces for areas you have visited some time ago.  There are also items in your inventory you will use throughout the adventure to attain pieces.  You can move to each connected area by clicking on the path leading to it or a map is available for quick travel.  If you get stuck the game does offer a hint feature, which I swear I only had to use once.

It is important to point out for those of you familiar with the games that FIVE-BN puts out you are not restricted to so many moves an hour.  It's not like their other micro transaction games.

My Thoughts:

While being a pretty simple game, I found myself enjoying this one a lot.  A lot of hidden object games feel more like a five minute in photo shop gone wrong, mixed with glitchy maps.  This game contained none of those issues but instead invites us into a dark phantasy land full of mythical creature and magical contraptions.  The puzzles felt fair and kept me interested.  I do genuinely like hidden object games and I know this a chosen taste but this game was enjoyable.

The story was simple but added to what would other wise be pointless puzzle solving.  Even though they are fun pointless puzzles. It wasn't too hokey and wasn't cringy but actually kind of endearing.

This is the type of game you can pick up and put down when you need to.  I found it to be a relaxing jaunt through a well-crafted world, easy to enjoy.  My favorite part of the games is it works, which is more than I can say for Mystic Saga.  Not that I am bitter about it by bringing it up in another game's review.  Really though if you are only going to allow me so few moves an hour in Lost Lands: A Hidden Object Game and you dangle another one in front of my face and it doesn't work, it's kinda annoying.  I digress Lost Lands: Dark Overlord is a pretty good title and I would recommend it for anyone into hidden object games, which I am sure there are dozens of us.

TL;DR:

This game is a game for the laid back gamer.  The puzzles are well designed making your interaction with the world a reward in itself.  If you like hidden object games, go ahead and download the demo.  There is a good chance it will push you to purchase the full game.
