Solitairica Review

  It's not often you come upon a game that takes something that you would have never thought could be interesting again and then proves you wrong.  If I came up to you and told you that there was a solitaire game you should try out, I am sure your response would be something like, "I haven't got any change, please leave me alone."  Well, in this case, you would be wrong for not having listened to advice from someone you have never met who was waving a cell phone in your face.  Solitairica by Righteous Hammer Games is something to take a look at.

The Game:

  This game is a take on the classic game of solitaire.  There are several decks available each with their own perk  In the free version of this game you can't buy these extra decks outside of the warrior class.  For a few real bucks you can buy the complete game or buy each deck individually.  Each card has 1 of 4 symbols that act as defense, attacks, spells, and other actions.  You will pull one card at a time in your hand and will be trying to get rid of all the cards dealt in front of you by clicking on cards above or below the one you pull.

  While you are trying to click away the cards the enemy is pulling cards of its own between your turns.  These can range from straight attacks to you or debuffs to cards you have yet to pull.  After each fight, you gain money which you can spend on spells and items bought through a shop.  After each run (more nonsuccessful then successful) you will be rewarded with the gems that unlock other decks(if you buy them).  After you lose an encounter you must once again start at the beginning and work your back through all the fights in a very roguelike manner.

  There are also several achievements in the game that you can aim to achieve to help keep your interest up.

My Thoughts:

 Solitairica brings something to the market.  Mobile games are so saturated novel titles fall by the way side. This was most likely one of the reasons I did not come across it till recently.  Still, I am glad I did.

  The aesthetic of this game is cute and it brings with it a nice sense of humor.  Its a light hearted romp through a handful of enemies testing your basic skill of solitaire and your ability to leverage moves to kill some baddies.  It is a cool fusion of new and old ideas and it had me picking up my phone in a desperate attempt to get through the levels every time I got a free chance at work home.

  I would recommend putting this game on your phone and trying it out. It has a fulfilling free mode available if you need to try it out before dropping a few bucks on it.  Each of the other classes does bring a new type of gameplay to the game so I would also recommend trying at least one.  You can also buy it on Steam if you feel so inclined.

TL:DR;

  Solitairica is a unique solitaire game with adventure elements that is definitely worth putting on your phone or picking up in Steam.  The cute aesthetics along with RPG like mechanics keep this game interesting through an abundance of play throughs.
